      city, Dolnośląskie województwo (province), southwestern Poland. Located on the Oder River in the Środkowopolski Lowlands, it received its town rights in 1253. During World War II Głogów was almost completely destroyed.

      The modern city is the railway and road centre for the northern part of Lower Silesia. The city is a centre for copper electroplating. It also has food-processing plants and factories producing electrical machinery. Pop. (2002) 70,490.
