▪ Iraqalso spelled Dohuk , or Dhokcity, northern Iraq, capital of Dahūk muḥāfaẓah (governorate). The city lies near the northern end of the Tigris River valley. The area in which the city is situated is unsuitable for cultivation but is good for fruit orchards and pasturage. Dahūk has a fruit-canning plant and a textile mill. It was a popular tourist destination before the start of the Iraq War in 2003. Pop. (2001 est.) 40,100.
