Balurghat

India
      city, northern West Bengal state, northeastern India, just east of the Atrai River. Connected by road with Ingraj Bazar (Angrezabad) in India and Dinajpur and Rajshahi in Bangladesh, it is a regional distributing centre, trading mainly in rice, jute, sugarcane, and oilseeds. It was declared a municipality in 1951 and has a college affiliated with the University of North Bengal. Pop. (2001) 135,737.
