Bahram

Bahram

(foaled 1932), English racehorse (Thoroughbred), winner in 1935 of the British Triple Crown and never beaten in nine contests.

Foaled by Friar's Daughter and sired by Blandford, Bahram was owned by the Aga Khan and bred at his stud in Curragh, Ireland. Trained by Frank Butters at Newmarket, Bahram always came in first, from his first race in 1934, which he won by a neck. In 1935, ridden by his usual jockey Freddie Fox, Bahram won the Two Thousand Guineas and the Derby; and Charlie Smirke rode him to victory in the Saint Leger to complete the Triple Crown. In 1936 he was retired from the racetrack and sent to stud at Newmarket. Not outstanding as a stallion, he was sold in 1939 to a U.S. syndicate, which sold him to an Argentinian syndicate in 1946. He sired Turkham, a winner of the Saint Leger, Big Game, and Persian Gulf.
