      British film and television producer who cofounded (1948) the independent production company Romulus Films Ltd. with his brother, James, and produced such acclaimed motion pictures as Pandora and the Flying Dutchman, The African Queen, Moulin Rouge, I Am a Camera, Richard III, Beat the Devil, Room at the Top, The L-Shaped Room, Oliver!, The Day of the Jackal, and The Odessa File; in 1958 he founded Anglia Television and oversaw the drama department, which produced such notable series as Orson Welles' Great Mysteries (1974–76) and Tales of the Unexpected (1979–89). Woolf was knighted in 1975 (b. March 15, 1913, London, Eng.—d. June 28, 1999, London).
