Took, Barry

Took, Barry
▪ 2003

British stand-up comic and comedy writer (b. June 19, 1928, London, Eng.—d. March 31, 2002, London), wrote zany, anarchic comedy shows for BBC radio and television—including Round the Horne, Educating Archie, The Army Game, Bootsie and Snudge, and The Goodies—often in collaboration with his longtime partner, comedian Marty Feldman; in 1969 Took persuaded the BBC to hire six young comedy writers for a new show he had originally conceived as Baron Von Took's Flying Circus but that was ultimately dubbed Monty Python's Flying Circus. In addition to writing and serving as the BBC's comedy adviser, from 1979 Took was the host of several popular quiz shows and sketch revue series.
