Reynolds, Peter John

Reynolds, Peter John
▪ 2002

British archaeologist (b. June 11, 1939, Shifnal, Shropshire, Eng.—d. Sept. 26, 2001, Kemer, Turkey), was one of the world's experts on the Iron Age and a pioneer in the field of experimental archaeology. Reynolds refused to accept theories about pre-Roman Iron Age life without practical testing, and he reconstructed Iron Age technologies, agricultural techniques, and building construction as authentically as possible. His work was most fully expressed at Butser Ancient Farm, an open-air laboratory in Hampshire, which was established in 1972 as a replica of a working British farming settlement from about 300 BC.
