“the Fox”
American environmentalist (b. Nov. 20, 1930, Aurora, Ill.—d. Oct. 3, 2001, Aurora), employed a number of creative means of demonstrating his displeasure with pollution, especially that caused by corporations, and he acknowledged his efforts by leaving a note signed “the Fox,” with a fox's face drawn in the o. Among his methods were the dumping of sewage in the reception room of the company that had released it into Lake Michigan and the placement of skunks on the doorsteps of executives of companies that polluted. In 1986 he started the Fox River Conservation Foundation.
