Donald Eugene Lytle
American country musician (b. May 31, 1938, Greenfield, Ohio—d. Feb. 18, 2003, Nashville, Tenn.), was a hard-living honky-tonk singer and songwriter who recorded more than 30 albums and had dozens of hit singles, but he was most widely recognized for his phenomenally popular 1977 rendition of David Allan Coe's workingman anthem “Take This Job and Shove It.” His first top 40 song, “A-11,” released in 1965, led to a series of recordings on the Little Darlin' label, which he started with producer Aubrey Mayhew, and these were regarded as his most artistically successful. He enjoyed a second period of success in the 1970s, and his last top 10 hit was “Old Violin” in 1986.
