Jean Bialu Madilu
      Congolese musician

born May 28, 1950, Matadi, Belgian Congo

died Aug. 11, 2007, Kinshasa, Dem. Rep. of the Congo
was a singer and a composer who reached near legendary status in Africa, notably in duets with Franco Luambo Makiadi, including “Mario” and “Reponse de Mario” in 1985 and “La Vie des hommes” in 1986. Madilu's career in music began in 1969, but he achieved wide fame as a distinctive vocalist and composer after he was discovered by Franco, founder and leader of the long-renowned TP OK Jazz band. After Franco's death in 1989, Madilu embarked on a successful solo career, releasing several well-received albums; the final one, La Bonne Humeur, was released in July 2007.
