Ida Mae Holland 
      American playwright (b. Aug. 29, 1944, Greenwood, Miss.—d. Jan. 25, 2006, Santa Monica, Calif.), was the author of the riveting From the Mississippi Delta, an autobiographical account of her traumatic childhood in the South, her descent into prostitution, and her experiences as a civil rights activist. The drama was first produced on the London stage in 1991; From the Mississippi Delta was published as a memoir in 1997 and nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
