▪ 2006French actress (b. Jan. 28, 1918, near Paris, France—d. June 15, 2005, Paris), appeared in more than 60 films during a career that spanned 60 years. Flon won two César Awards, the best actress prize at the Venice Film Festival for Thou Shalt Not Kill (1961), and two Molière Awards for her work in the theatre. She made her screen debut in 1947 and performed in such notable films as Moulin Rouge (1952), Orson Welles's Mr. Arkadin (1955), Le Procès (1962), The Train (1964), L'Été meurtrier (1983), and Les Enfants du marais (1999). Her theatre work included plays by Shakespeare, Molière, Marguerite Duras, and, particularly, Jean Anouilh. Flon continued to perform well into her 80s and last appeared onstage in Duras's Savannah Bay (2004).
