      British motion picture set decorator and art director (b. Oct. 25, 1908, London, Eng.—d. April 12, 2000, Hove, East Sussex, Eng.), as the industry's first important woman art director, applied her training as an architect and her careful attention to period detail to British films for nearly 40 years (1937–77); Dillon worked often with director Anthony Asquith, particularly on The Browning Version (1951) and The Importance of Being Earnest (1952), and with Laurence Olivier, notably on Hamlet, for which she won an Academy Award in 1948.
