▪ 2000American actor and influential improvisational comic who was a founder of the Committee comedy troupe in San Francisco, performed with and directed for Second City in Chicago, and was a coach of the Saturday Night Live troupe; he was also acclaimed for his film and stage performances, and he willed his skull to Chicago's Goodman Theatre so he could continue to appear in Hamlet—as Yorick (b. March 9, 1934, Manhattan, Kan.—d. March 4, 1999, Chicago, Ill.).
