      American radio and television broadcaster who, as the voice of the Chicago Cubs (1941-81) and White Sox (1940-67) baseball teams, combined exuberance and colourful storytelling with his signature home-run call, "Hey-hey! Hey-hey!"; a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame (inducted 1983), he also announced football, basketball, golf, and boxing contests as well as numerous political events (b. Jan. 24, 1916, Peoria, Ill.—d. Aug. 6, 1998, Chicago, Ill.).
