▪ 2005American pop singer (b. July 3, 1957, Brewster, N.Y.—d. Aug. 26, 2004, East Quogue, N.Y.), enjoyed a string of hits in the 1980s, most notably “Gloria” in 1982. The song spent 36 weeks on the pop charts. Later she scored hits with “Solitaire,” “Self Control,” and “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You?” She acted occasionally in films and on television, and in 2002 she starred in Love, Janis, a musical about Janis Joplin.
