Borba, Emilinha

Borba, Emilinha
▪ 2006
Brazilian singer (b. Aug. 31, 1923, Rio de Janeiro, Braz.—d. Oct. 3, 2005, Rio de Janeiro), endured as one of Brazil's most beloved radio personalities for 30 years. She made her first recording in 1939 and a year later joined Rádio Nacional, where she continued to work until health problems forced her to retire in 1968. She sang rumbas and sambas and had a famous (and friendly) rivalry with the singer Marlene. Borba starred in numerous films and was a staple attraction at Rio's Carnival. She marked her 50 years of recording with the release of the album O carnaval de João Roberto Kelly na voz de Emilinha Borba in 1990.
