Canadian journalist and broadcasting executive who at various times owned the Toronto Telegram, was part owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team and the Toronto Argonauts football team, and was granted Canada's first license for a privately owned television station, CFTO; he later helped form and became chairman of Baton Broadcasting Inc., and CFTO became the flagship of the CTV network (b. Aug. 25, 1915, Ottawa, Ont.—d. April 27, 1998, Toronto, Ont.).
