John III So·bies·ki (sō-byĕsʹkē), 1629-1696.
King of Poland (1674-1696) who was a leader in the military expulsion of the Turks from Christian Europe. He formed an alliance with the pope, the Holy Roman emperor, and the rulers of Vienna (1684).
