      city, Navajo county, east-central Arizona, U.S. It lies in the valley of the Little Colorado River. Founded in 1882 as a divisional terminal of what was then the Santa Fe Railway, it was named for Edward F. Winslow, a railroad official. Winslow's economy is based upon transportation, tourism, manufacturing, and trade. The lumber industry is also important. Meteor Crater is a few miles west. To the north is the extensive Navajo Nation Reservation, which includes Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly National Monument and which encloses the Hopi Indian Reservation. Inc. town, 1900; city, 1957. Pop. (1990) 8,190; (2000) 9,520.
