▪ Indiacity, Jharkhand state, northeastern India, at the junction of the Subarnarekha (Subarnarekha River) and Kharkai rivers. Sometimes called Tatanagar, the city was named for industrialist Jamsetji Nasarwanji Tata (Tata Family), whose company opened a steel plant there in 1911, and it rapidly grew in importance. The second largest city in the state, Jamshedpur is a major rail and road junction. Industries include India's principal ironworks and steelworks, a vehicle assembly plant, and factories manufacturing agricultural implements, enameled ironware, and locomotive engine parts.
