[1880-85, Amer.; earlier seecatchie (collective or pl.) < Russ sekachí, pl. of SEKÁCH mature male fur seal, hog, or wild boar, lit., chopper, cutter (alluding to the tusks of such animals), equiv. to sek-, s. of sech' to cut, slash + -ach n. suffix; cf. HOLLUSCHICK]
